The Phillips Community of Minneapolis is conveniently located just south of downtown Minneapolis. This community and it's junior high school took their names from Wendell Phillips a 19th century abolitionist. This particular area of Minneapolis is considered to have one of the most diverse populations anywhere in the Twin Cities. With this diversity has come an array of new businesses, and an investment in urban renewal. Some of the largest employers have invested in this area, with major employers such as Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Allina Health Services and Wells Fargo Bank calling the Phillips Community home.
This Midtown, East and West Phillips neighborhoods of Minneapolis are a variety of real estate including large turn of the century Victorian style homes, and newer apartment buildings and condominium complexes on some of the major roads. The boundaries for the four neighborhoods within the Phillips community were revised in 2002, and finalized in 2005.
The Ventura Village Neighborhood took it's name from the spanish word meaning luck of happiness. This area of south Minneapolis has seen numerous renewal projects in the past twenty years.
