This community and it's junior high school took their names from Wendell Phillips a 19th century abolitionist. This particular area of Minneapolis is considered to have one of the most diverse populations anywhere in the Twin Cities. With this diversity has come an array of new businesses, and an investment in urban renewal. Some of the largest employers have invested in this area, with major employers such as Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Allina Health Services and Wells Fargo Bank calling the Phillips Community home.
