Saint Paul has its beginnings in the location currently known as Lambert’s Landing. At that time, it was called Pig’s Eye after Pierre “Pig’s Eye” Parrant who had started a notorious tavern there.
Known for its gracious residential neighborhoods, Saint Paul is also recognized for the activities and cultural events that abound. The Winter Carnival, a tradition that originated in 1886, the Minnesota State Fair in nearby Falcon Heights, and the Como Zoo and Conservatory just to name a few.
Saint Paul hosts a number of museums including the Science Museum of Minnesota and the Minnesota Children’s Museum.
For the sports minded, the city offers many professional, semi-professional, and amateur sports teams including the Minnesota Wild hockey team, the Minnesota Swarm indoor Lacrosse team, and the renowned Saint Paul Saints minor league baseball team.
Saint Paul is also well known for its education, placing second in the United States in number of higher education institutions.
